temporary change in scheduling NEMT services applies ONLY to designated facility provider types

The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) recently published Bulletin BT201845 advising that the requirement to arrange nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) services for fee-for-service (FFS) members through Southeastrans will be temporarily lifted, effective September 4, 2018, for specific facilities offering extended care services. This temporary return to nonbrokered services applies only to those facilities enrolled under the provider types/provider specialties outlined in BT201845; no other provider types are affected by this change. Provider types/provider specialties not specifically mentioned in the bulletin, are required to continue arranging NEMT services for FFS members through Southeastrans.

As stated in the bulletin, facilities affected by this temporary change still must contact Southeastrans to request prior authorization (PA) for trips as required by IHCP policy and to receive a Trip Leg ID for each NEMT trip. Although the transports can be scheduled directly with the transportation providers, reimbursement for these transports will continue to be adjudicated by Southeastrans.

The IHCP has received reports that Bulletin B201845 is being interpreted incorrectly. The bulletin contains critical instructions for transportation providers to be reimbursed correctly by Southeastrans. IHCP encourages providers to carefully read the entire bulletin.
