National Correct Coding Initiative scheduled to
implement October 1, 2010
In the 1990s, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
(CMS) developed the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI). The
NCCI has been in place for Medicare for many years. The
recent health care legislation passed into law (H.R. 3962),
requires Medicaid programs incorporate compatible methodologies
into their claims processing system effective for claims filed on
or after October 1, 2010.
The IHCP is working with contracted vendors to implement changes
to claims processing to meet the October 1 deadline. To learn
about how the NCCI may affect your claims, read banner BR201027. Additional information will be
published in provider communications in the coming months.
