HIPAA 5010 and NCPDP D.0 Testing To Begin January 2011
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has
published its final rule adopting updated versions of the standards
for electronic healthcare and pharmacy transactions originally
adopted under the Administrative Simplification subtitle of the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
(HIPAA). The mandatory compliance date for American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) version 5010 and the National Council
for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) version D.0 for all covered
entities is January 1, 2012.
The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) will begin testing
5010 transactions in the first quarter of 2011. Testing with
trading partners will be on a scheduled basis. To learn more about
what providers need to do to be ready for testing, read the HIPAA
5010 and NCPDP D.0 FAQs and the September IHCP Provider
Newsletter. Additional information will be published in provider
communications in the coming months.
