ICD-10 question of the month
Each month, we will poll our readers about an ICD-10 topic. The
following month, we will post the results on this page and in the
IHCP Provider News, along with a
new question. Email your response to us by clicking the link
associated with your answer. Include any additional information you
want to share in the body of your email.
Thank you for responding to the April 2013
question
Results from the April 2013 question:
Has your coding or billing staff received any training
on ICD-10?
Please note, you may continue to reply to last month's question
by clicking the appropriate response and including any additional
information you want to share in the body of the email.
May 2013 Question of the Month
Have you and your staff been coding at least one claim a
day in both ICD-9 and ICD-10?
Click on your response and include any additional information
you want to share in the body of the email.
Implications of May 2013 question
Tip from the OMPP, ISMA, and IHA: To become familiar
with the complexity of coding claims in ICD-10 versus ICD-9, the
IHCP suggests you practice by coding the first claim of each day
using both ICD-10 and ICD-9 codes. This will allow physicians'
staffs to become familiar with the new coding system.
The IHCP encourages you to use these ICD-10-coded claims for
testing with the IHCP through your software vendor and
clearinghouse during the vendor testing timeframe. For more
information, see the ICD-10
Testing page - Software Vendors and Clearinghouses on this
site.
Limited provider response is cause for concern!
Help us help you by responding to IHCP outreach efforts. Poll
responses suggest that IHCP providers may not be approaching the
transition to ICD-10 with the urgency it demands. The magnitude of
this project requires providers to be pro-active in their
preparations. Even though implementation is not until October 1,
2014, now is the time to become familiar with the new code set and
to prepare your systems and your staff. It takes only a minute to
answer the Question of the Month and your response will help us
work together to successfully implement ICD-10. Remember: We
are all in this together.
