Intent to Delay ICD-10 Compliance Date

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a February 16, 2012, announcement of the intent to delay the ICD-10 compliance date:

ICD-10 Surveys

The ICD-10 team is now surveying vendors and providers every 90 days through August 2013. The surveys help determine how ready vendors and providers are to implement ICD-10 by October 1, 2013, with no exceptions. By conducting surveys every 90 days, we track progress, uncover issues, and provide links to associations, training, and materials that may be helpful to vendors and providers.

ICD-10 IHCP Provider Readiness Surveys

IHCP providers are notified that surveys are available through IHCP provider newsletters, banner pages, and via this site's News and Announcements section. The person in the provider organization who is charged with planning, implementing, and managing the ICD-10 project should complete the survey. If the provider organization has a team assigned to this project, completing the survey may be a team effort.

ICD-10 Vendor Readiness Surveys

FSSA and HP vendors receive email invitations or mailed copies of the ICD-10 Vendor Readiness Survey. The survey should be completed by the person responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the ICD-10 project in the vendor organization. If the vendor organization has a team assigned to this project, completing the survey may be a team effort. If the vendor organization has more than one contract with the FSSA and HP, a separate survey should be completed for each, addressing readiness as it pertains to each contract.

Announcing Medicaid.gov. This CMS bulletin introduces and links to the new Medicaid.gov website that is part of the CMS website.

CMS Announces Extension of Enforcement Discretion Period for Updated HIPAA Transaction Standards Through June 30, 2012. On March 16, 2012, CMS announced that it will not initiate enforcement action against any noncompliant entities through June 30, 2012, for updated Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) transaction standards (ASC X12 Version 5010, NCPDP Versions D.0 and 3.0). All submitters of electronic claims to Medicaid must be 5010 compliant.

CMS Informational Bulletins. Subscribers to CMS bulletins receive email notifications of publications on various topics, including ICD-10.

ICD-10-CM General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs). Coordination & Maintenance Committee Meeting. September 28, 2007. This CMS presentation that briefly explains the use of GEMs was posted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

ICD-10 Myths and Facts. In this document, CMS addresses common misconceptions about ICD-10 implementation.

Indiana Health Information Management Association (IHIMA). This association is an affiliate of AHIMA and offers ICD-10 presentations and materials. Some of the resources are available only to members or at a cost.

Indiana Hospital Association (IHA). The IHA offers ICD-10 information and training classes, including webinars to its membership--see the schedule and registration information for the first half of 2012.

Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA). The ISMA offers ICD-10 information and training from the Education link on its website.
